A Hymn for Sunday

Wonderful Peace

Words by-Warren D. Cornell
Music by- W. George Cooper

Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial like strains it unceasingly falls
O'er my soul like an infinite calm.

Peace! Peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever,
I pray, In fathomless billows of love.

What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace,
buried deep in the heart of my soul,
So secure that no power can mine it away
While the years of eternity roll.

Peace! Peace! Wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.

I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus' control;
For I'm kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul.

Peace! Peace! Wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.

And me-thinks when I rise to that city of peace,
Where the Author of peace I shall see,
That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing
In that heavenly kingdom shall be:

Peace! Peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.

Ah! soul, are you here without comfort or rest,
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your Friend ere the shadows grow dark.
Oh, accept this sweet peace so sublime.

Peace! Peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.

Beautiful hymn, Ashley! I had not heard it before . . . what hymnal do you use?

I loved all the photos! What gorgeous flowers, sky and leaves! What kind of flowers are in the fourth photo?

Note about the chocolate mint plant that you blogged about a while back: I told you it was invasive; well, I've decided that God made it that way for a reason. If you use it regularly, you'll want more and more. I've been steeping whole mint "stalks" in a pitcher of boiling water as a means of encouraging more water consumption. I love it. So, I think I'll soon use up all the mint I have. So, the more the merrier! Also, lemon mint is interesting. It doesn't really give much mint flavor to my water, but it makes the water taste like it has fresh squeezed lemon. Add sugar and it may be like lemonade.

Senkyoshi~ How exciting to hear that I posted your favorite hymn! I hope it was a blessing to you!

Sarah~ Oh I had to laugh when I saw your question about my hymnal!! I have three that I play out of!! :o) My favorite hymnbook is the one that our church uses and it is chock full of "old time" hymns. It called "Praise and Worship" and is published by Lillenas publishing Co. out of Kansas City MO. There is no date on the inside cover so...
The one other hymnal I use is called "Majesty Hymns" and published by Majesty Music out of Greenville SC.

Here is a link to the tune of the Hymn... http://users.stargate.net/~bmames/ht0395_.htm They are playing it allot faster than it is usually sung.

The flowers in the fourth picture are called Lantana and hummingbirds and butterflies love them! It's a bush that will bloom multiple times during the summer (especially if you keep it "dead headed") and is relatively drought tolerant.

Anonymous~ Thank you for your input on the mint! I will need to try steeping it as I myself need to drink more water. Lemon mint... I think Mom has some of that in her garden!! I am DEFINATELY going to try that idea!!!

Thank you for answering my questions, Ashley! I will have to see if I can find the first hymnal you mentioned, and we have the second. That is the hymnal we use in our little church group and the one that our family uses . . . we love it!

Thank you for sharing the link to the tune! I liked it! (I just checked in our hymnal and the song is in there! I will be adding this one to my repertoire. :)

I wonder if Lantana would grow in Missouri? I will certainly be investigating it as I love the blooms on it! And I also like flowers/plants that hummingbirds and butterflies are attracted to. Thank you again for sharing! :)

I like "Majesty Hymnal" but it doesn't have any of the older hymns that I have heard in the past few years. I love playing out of it though as the eighth notes are tied together instead of being little "flags" and the music easy to read!

I don't see why Lantana wouldn't grow in MO. Just give it a good mulching in late fall and I think it would come back the next spring. It does get big- I think mine was 5 to 6 feet wide in one direction before I trimmed it back so you would want to keep it trimmed back. Another one of my favorite plants to draw butterflies is the Butterfly Bush. The blooms give out an unreal fragrance that I just love!
